Prayer in School

Hello Everyone my name is Loretta and my blog is on "Why did they take prayer out of school?"
I don't understand why that our students are not aloud to say prayer before starting their classes, together as a school. Why does it have to be only when they are at lunch or on break? I feel that saying a prayer before class would not hurt anybody. I also think that you can take it to far. If you disrupt the class to pray just because, I can the problem there. I thought the we lived in a "FREE" country. I don't think that everyone should have to pay the price for something that someone else doesn't want to do. If you do not want to have prayer, close your ear. I think that we should say a short prayer every morning and before every meal, because we are blessed everyday that we open our eyes and roll out of bed.

I agree. Students should not be forced to pray, but the option to pray should be open to everyone. A certain amount of time should be alloted before classes start each morning if students want to say a prayer. I believe if you single the students out even more then that, then they feel they would get harassed if they pray alone, so therefore group prayers should be established, but those who don't want to participate, shouldn't be forced to.

I agree that the option to pray should always be there. If a child doesn't want to pray then they don't have to but those who want to pray should have that option. When I was in school they couldn't take time to pray, but the prayer club always got on the morning announcements and said an inspirational quote of the day that usually came from the Bible. Instead of a prayer, the quote was followed by a moment of silence. I still agree with a saying that I saw hanging in my high school dean's office, "As long as there are tests there will always be prayer in school."

I agree, Christians are the ones that get punished. We have to be open to what everyone else believes, but we can't even pray where we want. We are suppose to have freedom of religion, but having to be politically correct is ruining us.

Every since prayer went out schools the school systems have gotten worse.A prayer would not do any harm. The way society is today, a prayer would be beneficial to every child. It should be a choice as to what way and how a child would like to pray. Their are many types of religions out there that protest this.Children can still pray, even if it's a silent prayer. What happened to "In God we trust"? Our country is based on religion. So much evil, violence, and crime has robbed our children lives and took their rights away to pray. Prayer should definitely be placed back into the school system.

I do believe that students should be given the choose to say prayer in school, but they shouldn't be made say it. A lot of children might not even be familiar with prayer. I feel that it should be done if the students want to do it. I also feel that it should not be up to the parents of the children.

I am completly for the freedom to pray in schools and everywhere. Prayer does not hurt anyone. It only helps. Taking prayer out of schools is a huge mistake. No one will ever keep me from saying a silent prayer.

My blog was on the same topic. So I think everyone knows how I feel about taking prayer out of school. It should be allowed and a part of all school systems.

Prayer don't hurt anyone... When people want to curse they do, so why do we have to stop praying. To me praying is a lot less offensive.

I agree with you 100%. We as Americans have been given this freedom and we should be allowed to use it. Our forefathers spoke of it often. How come our leaders today don't speak much of it? Interesting isn't it.

Prayer should be allowed in schools and like I said before if the parents don't like it then don't send your kids to that school.

Christians are the ones that are punished. We are continually made to keep quite. What about our freedom of religion and freedom of expression? It seems that our freedoms are slowly being taken away from us.

I think if someone wants to pray they can do so themselves. It is up to the parents to teach children to pray not school. I think if a child wants to say a silent prayer no one would say anything. But I have been in classes where we were made to say a prayer and thats not right either, because if their heart is not in it, it does not mean anything. Besides this is the United States and not Russia.

I think that a student should not be made to say a prayer at school, but the option should be there. If a student wants to say a prayer at school they should have the right to do so. I agree with some of the others and I feel like this is taking away from the one's that believe in it and wants to do it.

I agree that prayer is important. I also agree that we should all have the freedom of speech and pray if we want to. I am not sure that it should be a requirement in schools, just free choice for the individual. I would like for religion to be a part of everyone's daily life, but that is not how it is right now.

I think it should be a individual decision and I think that the kids that want to pray ought to be alloted time to do so just as students don't wish to participate should be excused from prayer.

Here is the real issue..."Seperation of Church and State". A few people over time have taken and ran with the seperation, ran right to a lawyer. School and indidvuals can not risk a law suit from one parent or one student....because everytime they will win due to the law. Until the law is changed nothing within the school can change. However, prayer and morality can be taught at home and any Christian can shine their light all day long with out a prayer demonstration. Pray with children can be done at dinner, before bed, or anytime.... even say a prayer before they go to school. I know a lady that tells her daughter everyday before she gets on the bus that, "she is chosen and blessed and a favor of the Lord".
